Coleman F1 Ultralight Stove

A solid and light gas stove

Coleman F1 Ultralight Stove is the lightest coleman propane stove. I got to use it for some time. It's as small as it gets and really lightweight.

Ultralight stove

It weighs something like 3oz, which is really the minimum for gas stoves. I used it only to boil water and it boils water in no time. Apart from that, the flame diameter is good enough for cooking. It simmers real nice too. So I'm pretty sure you can use it for cooking all kinds of stuff.

What I like the most about it, is that you can easily hide it under a standard gas canister. Also, I love its performance. It's amazing how strong it is. On the other hand, it takes a minute to assemble it, which can be a bit of a nag. You have to screw the burner in place and to fan the three potholders.

Here is what I like and dislike about it. What I mention here is comparing to other canister stoves.

  • Hot, Hot, Hot! It runs very strong.
  • Simmers quite well
  • Small and light weight. Extremly compact when packed.

  • Messing with assembling shouldn’t be included when you use canister stove…
  • Price. You can get other stoves with same abilities for much less.

Comparing Ultralight canister stoves

Here is a small comparison between three ultralight gas stoves. Yes, I know, there are also the Snow Peak LiteMax (2oz), the Soto Micro Regulator (2.6oz) and others. I simply have less experience with them so I stick with those I konw the best.

Power Very good Good Not as the others

Locating the pot holders in place. Screwing the burner in place. None Just unfold the top of the burner
Something else The plastic parts that hold the pot holders in place are somewhat fragile. A Best seller, for a reason.
Deals well with winds.
It's cool! The look you get whenever someone sees the folding mechanism for the first time…
Bottom line Go get it! It's also about 15$ less.  Only if you have to have the coolest gadget

Bottom line

The Coleman F1 Ultralight is a great stove, it's very compact, very light and very reliable. MSR pocket rocket is better in price and in simplicity. It's up to you to choose.
